The Hidden Truth About Unconditional Love: No One Told You

What if everything we thought about love was simply wrong? For generations, we’ve been taught to search for that unconditional love outside ourselves, for the right person, our one soulmate, our twin flame. We can’t find love when we go searching for it, because love was never out there to begin with. Yes you heard me right. We have a lot to learn about love.

This week on the Human Impact Theory Podcast, I sat down with Dr. Stephen Post, one of the world’s leading voices on compassion, care, generosity, and love. His brand-new book, Pure Unlimited Love reveals the hidden truth about unconditional love and the seven powerful paths that will lead you to unlimited love for your life. As he reminds us, “Love is the ultimate and most profound of human experiences; it is the source of meaning and purpose in life.”

This isn’t just another spiritual lesson. It’s a research-backed understanding, rooted in history, science, and lived experience, showing us how love isn’t only an emotion, but the very expression and mirror of our lives. This conversation will change the way you understand love, and more importantly, how you can live as love every day.

What Do We Have Wrong About Love?

Before we can understand what we can get right about love we need to understand what we have wrong:

  • We’ve been told a story that love is something to find.
  • We go searching for it in others, expecting the perfect partner, soulmate, or twin flame to bring it into our lives.
  • When we don’t find it, or when it fades, we feel empty.
  • We think love has left us.

But here’s the truth: we have it backwards. Love isn’t something that arrives from the outside. It’s something we create and live from the inside out. Love isn’t what someone gives to you, it’s what you choose to express in your life.

As Dr. Post explains, love is a mirror of who we are. When we love, we see ourselves more clearly. When we live without love, we lose sight of our own deepest truth.

What is Unconditional Love?

Unconditional love is valuing another person’s well-being as equal to your own. It isn’t dependent on circumstances, performance, or expectations. It isn’t about what someone can give you, but about what you choose to give freely.

We often assume unconditional love is only possible between a parent and child, or reserved for saints and mystics. But Dr. Post reminds us that unconditional love can be practiced by anyone, at any moment. Love is an expression of who we are through:

  • Kindness
  • Forgiveness
  • Listening
  • Generosity (https://365give.ca/family-love-activities-to-inspire-generosity-in-kids/)

Unconditional love is not passive, it’s active. It’s the way we live and act in the world, not just what we feel.

Unconditional Love vs. Unlimited Love

So what’s the difference? Unconditional love means you love without conditions or expectations. You don’t withdraw it when someone fails or disappoints you. Unlimited love goes even further. It expands beyond family, friends, or tribe. It includes humanity, animals, and even nature.

Dr. Post’s idea of Pure Unlimited Love is powerful because it moves love from the personal to the universal. As he writes, “When the security and well-being of another is as real to us as our own, and sometimes even more so, we are within the field of love.” Unlimited love is an invitation to extend compassion and care beyond the circle of those we know, to include all life.

Can Love Really Be Practiced?

Yes. Love can be practiced daily. It isn’t just a feeling, it’s a discipline, a habit, a way of being in this world. Love is a choice we make moment by moment.

In his book, Dr. Post introduces the Seven Paths, daily “mantras” that guide us into living love:

  • May You Give and Glow: finding joy in generosity.
  • May You Heal with Kindness: letting kindness restore both giver and receiver.
  • May You Follow Your Callings: living true to your purpose.
  • May You Raise Kind Children: teaching the next generation empathy and compassion.
  • May You Know the One Mind: awakening to a shared spiritual awareness.
  • May You Cherish the Gift of Nature: remembering our bond with the earth.
  • And the last one you will discover when you read the book!

As Dr. Lisa Miller, author of The Awakened Brain, writes: “Opening this book is like lifting up the lid of a treasure chest to discover an ancient map to the love that has been buried within you all along.”

The Wheel of Love

  • Celebration
  • Compassion
  • Forgiveness
  • Attentive listening
  • Carefrontation (truth spoken with love)
  • Helpfulness
  • Loyalty
  • Respect
  • Mirth (joy and laughter)
  • Creativity

He keeps this Wheel on his wall as a reminder. As he writes, “The Wheel is a daily compass for living; each spoke is a concrete way love can be expressed in ordinary life.” Imagine if every school, every home, every community had the Wheel of Love posted at its center. What would change if we measured our days not by achievements, but by how many times we practiced one of these ten expressions?

Love, Health, and Well-Being

  • Forgiveness lowers stress and blood pressure.
  • Acts of kindness boost immune function and increase longevity.
  • Shared laughter reduces cortisol and creates bonds of trust.
  • Generosity lights up the same reward centers in the brain as joy.

Dr. Post blends these findings with wisdom traditions across history, showing that love is not only good for the soul but also for the body. Science and spirituality converge in a simple truth: love heals.

Living Unlimited Love Every Day

We’ve been taught to look for love in the wrong places. It isn’t waiting out there in a perfect partner or a soulmate. It begins within us, as a practice, a path, a way of life.

Unconditional love is not beyond reach. It is already within us, waiting to be woken up and expressed. Unlimited love extends this practice to the whole of life, people, animals, nature, and even future generations. It is not only possible but essential if we want to flourish.

As you finish this article, pause for a moment. Ask yourself: Where can I practice love today? A kind word, a forgiving heart, a generous act — these are the ways we change the world.
