Make A Muffin and Share A Muffin – Some Daily Give Inspiration

Need a daily give inspiration for your 365give Challenge this month? Well we think we can help. We love baking but most of all we love sharing our baking with others. Making muffins is a wonderful daily give and we love this one. Muffins can be given to people you know or people you don’t know. Who doesn’t love a little packet of goodness as a surprise treat! Who doesn’t love a home made treat given to them just because. Who doesn’t love knowing that someone took the time to bake something for them.

We found an Every Day Hero who also thinks the same way we do. Meet the Muffin Man, Jason Kauffman from San Franscisco and his co-founder Julia Levy originally from New York. Jason learned how to bake muffins and decided the only way to enjoy his treats was to share. He started baking muffins every Sunday and gave them out on his way to work to the homeless living on the streets of San Francisco. He loved how this made him feel, how happy he felt and Julie loved his story. They both started to bake muffins on Sundays and give them away as they walked to work on Mondays. Jason got the nickname Muffin Man and Julie began the National Giving Holiday #muffinday  #givemuffins. They started an annual National Muffin Day to encourage others to do the same. The 2019 National Muffin Day is February 24th so schedule this on your daily giving calendar!

Just like the 365give Challenge, Jason’s muffin caper is easy. Bake some muffins, take them with you to work, to school, to your exercise class and give them away to those living on the street. Everyone wins and people are inspired to look for simple ways to give every day.

Julie and Jason adopted a three step giving process, just like we have, to make this really easy. You can change the world and make it a happier place in just three steps, one give one day/muffin at a time.

1-Bake muffins for homeless people.

2-Post on social media with #givemuffins.

3-Deliver to the hungry in your city.

An Every Day Hero’s Story – The Muffin Man

Here is Jason and Julie’s story. They continue to celebrate Muffin Day on January 28th and we hope you are inspired to make this your daily give on January 28th! Use their idea for your Daily Give Inspiration.

Give your muffins to the homeless, your local fire department, local police department, your neighbour, your classmates, a local shelter or people at work. Share Jason and Julie’s story as you #givemuffins. If you cant wait to February 24th, give out muffins and let people know about National Muffin Day so they can also participate. Inspire others so we can all be the change we want to see in the world. We agree with Jason and Julie, there is nothing better than sharing a home made muffin. Jason and Julie do ask that you give your muffins to the homeless to build awareness of our homeless issue in North America but we spread the joy of muffins to everyone, so start baking!

Your Daily Give Inspiration – Avocado Muffins

These muffins are awesome! Healthy and delicious! My kids love making these muffins as they are easy and the final result is great.

What you Need

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup butter at room temp
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup mashed avocados

How You Make Them

Oven Temperature – 350F

Baking Time – 25 minutes

Makes 6 muffins so double the recipe to have 12 muffins in total!

In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Set aside. In another bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. In a food processor or blender, blend your avocado till very smooth – it needs to be completely smooth for this. (note I prefer the food processor method but you can use a blender in a pinch)

Mix in the egg and vanilla thoroughly and add the avocado. Gently fold in the flour mix, being careful not to over mix.

Spoon the batter (it is very thick) into the prepared muffin pan and bake for 25 minutes or until an inserted wooden skewer is clean with a few crumbs clinging. Cool completely and get ready to give them away! Keep a few for yourself as that will make you happy as well.

Mix in the egg and vanilla thoroughly and then the mashed avocado. Gently fold in the flour mix, being careful not to over mix.

Spoon the batter (it is very thick) into the prepared pan and bake for 35-45 minutes or until an inserted wooden skewer is clean with a few crumbs clinging. Cool completely, slice and enjoy.
