How to Give Back to Your Community for Do1Give Day

How can you give back to your community?

How to give back to your community is something many people are thinking about right now. You want to help. You want to take action. You just may not know where to start.

That is exactly why Do1Give Day exists. It is one day where we each choose one small act of giving, and when we do it together, something powerful begins to spread. Happiness. Peace. Compassion. Positivity. Connection.

We chose this year’s theme “Together We Can”, as a reminder that we do not have to do things alone. Change starts with one, but big impact takes us all.

What does it mean to give back to your community?

Giving back to your community is about contribution and service to make a difference right where you live. Your own backyard.

It’s taking the time to notice where the needs are where you live and do something about it. Every community in our world has needs and we can contribute to making them a little better. You can give back in simple ways that do make a difference.

I live in Vancouver Canada, and these are 3 simple ways I can give back every day in my community:

  • Pick up garbage at the beach.
  • Give a homeless person a meal.
  • Support a senior.

Community is not somewhere else. It is already around you.

Why giving back to your community matters right now

We are living in a time where many people feel disconnected. Giving back offers a way to reconnect in a positive way that helps everyone including you!

Research from the World Happiness Report shows that acts of giving increase:

  • Happiness
  • Connection.
  • Life meaning
  • Wellbeing

Giving also creates a sense of inner peace. Yes, that means reducing your stress and anxiety. The world today is a war and when we all take the time to create a little peace right where we are it positively affects everyone.
