Day 307: How to Give a Greeting Card that Keeps on Giving

 

This is such a fun give. Imagine a greeting card that keeps on giving, and giving and giving. Take just a moment to think about the millions of shiny, sparkly even singing cards that get thrown into a landfill every year. Could we all do our part and give back to the planet with one simple action? Buy green!

I tried to figure our how many greeting cards I send each year. My numbers have dropped dramatically over the past few years as the thought of all those cards getting dumped into the earth at the end of the holiday season made me a little sick. I started two new greeting card practices that have cut down my waist dramatically:

1) Instead of sending out 50 sparkly, shiny cards to everyone I do business with over the holidays I send an e-card and make a donation equal to the price of the cards.

2) I turn my sons art into special cards for family and friends as not to throw out all his precious art (more waste) and the paper is now reused for another project.

But there are times when a card is appropriate. E-cards are lovely but handing someone a personal birthday card or receiving a card in the mail is still a gift on it’s own. Do you remember how to write a note by hand? A little old fashion these days so it’s truly a gift.

This past week I needed to send a real card but I wanted to make sure it had a positive impact on the planet and I found the perfect card, with the perfect message and a positively green twist.
