12 Ways to Spread Seeds of Happiness in Your Family

There are so many ways that we can spread seeds of happiness within our own families. Spreading happiness in our families creates a happy, safe, and peaceful environment for everyone. Here are some examples of how you can spread seeds of happiness in your family.

1. Quality Time

Schedule time in your busy schedule to ensure that you spend meaningful time with your family with no distractions ie. No cellphones. Spend this time playing games, watching a movie together with some popcorn, or a simple meal together as a family and talk about something good that happened that day.

express gratitude with your family

2. Gratitude

Make sure that you say “thank you,” and really let those you love know that you appreciate them. This can be verbal, a simple note in a lunch box or school bag, on the dash of the car. A little thank you goes a long way!

3. Acts of Kindness

Being kind to each other should come naturally, but every family has their “moments.” Take time to be kind by simply saying a kind word, completing a chore without being asked or even just grabbing a drink for someone in your family.

4. Express Love

Tell your family members how you feel and that you love them, give out hugs freely, share details of your day, week, or life. Allow your home to be open to as much love received and given away as you can. When people come to your home, make them feel the love in the air.

5. Support Each Other’s Passions

Support everyone’s unique gifts, passions, and abilities and participate in going to see others perform, create, and show who they truly are.

6. Celebrate Achievements

Celebrate all achievements or hurdles crossed, no matter how big or small it is. It could be something as big as winning an award or something as small as taking that next step to gain a bit more confidence by doing something out of your comfort zone. Celebrating all milestones is so important.

7. Create Traditions

Traditions as a family is something that many families can relate to. This can be an annual family camping trip, going to the movies one night a month, simply having a game board night once per week, or having a meal together a couple of nights per week. Make it something meaningful for everyone and that everyone looks forward to.

8. Forgive and Let Go

Forgiveness is not only good for others but it’s also good for ourselves. When we forgive it heals and helps to build stronger relationships. Remember when you forgive you also have to let go of grudges and past hurts.

9. Open Communication

Make your family home a safe space for everyone to open up and be able to speak freely from feeling like they are not enough or that it’s not ok to speak up and speak openly. Allow everyone to voice their opinion. You don’t have to agree but agree to disagree and ensure that the other person feels heard and feels like what they say matters.

10. Random Acts of Kindness

Acts of kindness not only within the home and family but with others goes a long way. Spread kindness with others by volunteering at a soup kitchen, smiling at a total stranger, say hello to a person you see at the grocery store. A little kindness goes a long way with humanity. 11. Laugh Together

Lighten the stressors of life with a little laughter. It could be reading jokes on the internet, watching a funny movie, playing a fun board game, or playing with Nerf guns in the yard.

Proud of your family

12. Create a Positive Environment

Create a positive environment for your family. This creates an atmosphere of peace – use uplifting quotes, hang up artwork that invites positivity and a peaceful setting, and even maybe have a couple of plants to create a sense of nature in the home, which resonates with peace and tranquility.

By spreading seeds of happiness in your family, you create a space of peace, love, tranquility, safety, and inviting. By making your home a happy home, others will feel this and want to come into your home more often, and in turn, your happiness will shine through in others because you exude that happiness and those kind, peaceful and safe feelings that you live with in your own home. A positive environment leads to positive interactions and happier people…..one person at a time.

I am a mom of 2 amazing teenage boys and I work in the healthcare field in Human Resources. I love spending time with my partner, Tim and our kids. I enjoy reading, going for walks, spending time at the beach and hanging out by the fire pit delighting in bonfires in the summer months and going for long country drives, stopping to grab an ice creram somewhere along the way. My passion in life is to help others and be the change I want to see in the world and hence why I am a part of the 365give.ca team and movement.
