10 Gives to Animals That Will Make You Happy

I know my kids love to help animals. The favorite gives to animals are listed in this post. Their reverse advent calendar last year benefited the local animal shelter. Two weeks ago, my kids and I arrived to a local park to find a stray puppy running in the forest. He had no tags, no name, no identification so we could return him to his family. The question was what could we do to help this beautiful little copper coloured puppy. How were we going to complete our give to this animal today. This is what we did:

Step 1) Secured the puppy so he couldn’t run away. We couldn’t help him if he ran. We had our own family dog with us so we use her leash and put it on the puppy. (Our dog is well trained to stay with us)

Step 2) Called the Closest Animal Rescue Shelter. Our first call was to our local animal rescue shelter the West Vancouver SPCA to see if anyone had reported him missing. This didn’t help no one had reported him missing.

Step 3) Delivery to the Shelter. We gave him some food and water and took him down to the shelter with a hope his family would find him.

This animal rescue worked for us in a Vancouver park, and we could see that the dog was tame, and lost. Your strategy could be a bit different depending on where you live and the health of the dog. If you see a sick street dog, call your local animal rescue and have them review the situation. If you are unsure of the health or condition of a stray dog, cat of animal, call your local animal rescue or shelter and let them take the precautions when picking up a stray animal.

10 Gives To Animals That Will Make You and Animal  Happy

Just a few minutes of our time made us so happy. We got lots of puppy kisses and knew he would be well cared for at the shelter. Giving back to animals on our planet is so important. Many suffer in the wild and they are an important part of our planets natural eco system. Always remember when you treat all living creatures with love and compassion it creates a ripple that spreads further than you will ever know. The simplest give you can do is add the local shelter phone number to your phone so you are prepared if you find a lost, stray or injured animal somewhere

Save the Bees – Plant Flowers

Insects, reptiles, spiders, sea animals dog, cats – We put these all under the category of animals. Even the bees. Without bees we don’t have pollination on our planet. Without pollination we don’t have a living planet. Plant flowers that will continue to feed the bees and pollinate our planet. You can do this In your own garden, in a school garden even out in a forest. Plant away and light up our world with the beauty of flowers and bees!

Volunteer With Animal Organizations

There are thousands of animal rescue shelters around the world. Spend a few hours or minutes every week volunteering to help walking dogs, cuddle the cats or others tasks needed to help these important not for profit organizations do their work.

Set Up a Back Yard Bird Feeder

As the seasons change the birds need a little extra support in the colder months. Get a bird feeder going in your yard or a local park. We love waking up to the sound of the birds at our own house as they fly to our feeder and brings us more happiness with every chirp!

Stop Animal Cruelty

There are so many things you can do show support and use your voice to stand up against animal cruelty. Sign a petition, post on social, go to a march, volunteer for an organized group. Animal cruelty is everywhere in the world from the cosmetics industry, to farmers, to medical testing. Just choose one and make a difference. your give to animals can be done now. Click on this link for the petition site and sign one of many petitions that fight animal cruelty.

Adopt a Rescue Dog or Cat

There are literally hundreds of thousands of animals rescued and ethnized every year because there just isn’t enough space in shelters for all the animals. Instead of buying that cute puppy in the window of your local pet story (that was most likely received from a local puppy mill) go and take the time to find a wonderful family pet from your local shelter. It will make the animal happy but most of all will make your entire family happy.

Donate to An Animal Charity

There are so many charitable organizations that you can make a donation to – even a small amount – we recommend going to The World Wildlife Foundation . You will learn about different species from all over the world and how you can help. It’s also an amazing way to give a gift to a child for their birthday. Check out that section!

The Animal Rescue site allows you to Click to Give to help support animals. It’s free and just one click adds to the over 750,000,000 bowls of food already donated!

Save a Bugs Life – Prevent Harm Through Teaching

A little boy on our school playground was chasing a moth this week with an intention to kill it. Not so unusual for a little boy to kill a bug.  I stopped him and asked him to really think about what he was doing. Maybe that moth would be lunch for a bird or spider? Our planets eco system is all interconnected naturally. It actually doesn’t need any help from us other than keeping garbage free and pollution free. But if we keep killing all the bugs, we kill a natural and important part of our eco system. So instead of killing bugs capture them if they gently  in your home and set them free. It feels so good knowing you didn’t KILL another living creature and count it as your 365give for the day.

Participate In An Ocean Clean Up

You would have to live under a rock at this point if you are not aware of the problem we are having in our ocean with garbage and plastic waste. You may be asking what this has to do with animals but think about it for one minute. Our oceans are filled with garbage. The fish we eat are consuming that garbage. The toxins, oil leaks, pollution is all getting into our food supply chain we are eating. If we help to clean up our oceans, we are actually giving to ourselves.

Food & Water Stations for Animals

In many places around the world dogs and cats run the streets like rats. There is no system to get them neutered or spade and they keep reproducing over and over again. Not their fault. A little water dish and some food for a stray animal on the street will go a long way to keeping them healthily. You may not be able to take it home but you can make a positive difference to one.

Choose 1 and repeat it every day or choose them all! When you give it makes you happy. It’s that simple. No matter how small or big it makes our world a happier place to live one give, one day at a time.
