Simple Giving, Big Change: Experience The Magic Of Do1give

“It’s not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving.” – Mother Teresa

This quote has shaped the way I see the world. Giving, for me, was never about the numbers or the size of a gesture. It was about heart, love, and intention.

Years ago, when I was starting my career in India, I met a 5-year-old boy named Tarun. He had the kind of eyes that sparkle with curiosity and dreams—big ones. But his family was struggling, and in many parts of India, access to quality education isn’t always free or guaranteed, especially for children from low-income backgrounds. While I didn’t have much in my wallet (my salary was peanuts!), my heart was full of hope. I couldn’t offer him tuition fees or books right away—but I could offer time, energy, and care.

I started teaching him basic math and other subjects for free. One day, while shopping for groceries, I noticed a pack of pencils and a notebook that cost around $20. That moment hit me: What if I saved just $5 a week to help someone like Tarun? Not too big to affect my monthly budget, but enough to create change. That small act became my simple giving habit. And honestly? It brought me peace and joy in ways I never expected.

Why Simple Giving Matters More Than Ever

You don’t have to move mountains to make a difference. That’s the beauty of Do1Give Day. Just one act of giving from each of us—no matter how big or small—has the potential to create a wave of compassion across borders. The 2025 goal? 25,000 small acts of kindness creating 75,000 global ripples of joy. Imagine what that looks like.

Need a reason to join in? Here are five:

1. Giving builds meaningful human connection.

When we give generously, we’re not just helping someone—we are inviting them in. Whether it’s a smile, a warm meal, or simply listening, these moments form bonds deeper than words. It’s not about what you say; it’s about what you do.

2. Giving improves emotional well-being.

Stressed? Anxious? Shift your focus outward. Studies show that giving to others boosts our mood by releasing happy hormones like endorphins and oxytocin. These moments of joy don’t just brighten someone else’s day—they uplift yours too.

3. Giving is good for your health.

Yes, you read that right. Regular givers have better heart health and even live longer. Something as small as offering help to a neighbor or volunteering at a local shelter can work wonders for your body and soul. The power of giving goes far beyond emotional benefits.

4. Giving gives you a deeper sense of purpose.

When you start focusing on others, something shifts. Your problems feel smaller, your perspective widens, and your heart opens. Helping someone else find their light reminds you of your own. That’s simple giving at its core—purposeful and personal.

5. Giving strengthens faith and trust.

Sometimes, giving when you have little takes courage. But it’s in those moments we experience something beautiful—trust. Faith that your small act is enough. Faith that what you give will return in unexpected, beautiful ways. After all, the power of giving lies in the belief that good always finds its way back.

Giving That Comes From the Heart

At its best, giving isn’t just a kind gesture—it’s a mindset. A way of showing up in the world with intention.

Some of the most meaningful giving starts with putting it first, not saving it for when it’s convenient. When we plan to give—whether it’s time, attention, or resources—it becomes a priority, not an afterthought.

It also helps to think about giving in proportion to what we have. No two people will give the same way, and that’s okay. A small act from someone with limited means can carry just as much weight as a larger one from someone with more.

Meaningful giving often stretches us, and that’s where the impact deepens. When we give even when it’s not the easiest option, it connects us to others—and to ourselves—in powerful ways.

And perhaps most importantly, giving should feel good. Not like pressure or guilt, but like joy. The kind of joy that fills you up, knowing you’ve added something kind and true to the world.

That’s the beauty of simple giving. It’s not about grand gestures. It’s about intention, heart, and doing what you can—with love.

Simple Giving Starts with You—Are You In?

Whether you teach a child, plant a tree, call a lonely friend, or donate to a cause—your action matters. I’ve seen it firsthand. That little boy Tarun? He’s now thriving in school. And  I’m still saving my $5 a week. Because it’s not about changing the world in one day—but showing up with love, again and again.

So let’s do it. Together.Let’s make April 24th a day the world won’t forget.

One act. One person. One change at a time.

Join the movement. Celebrate the power of simple giving.
