How to Give To Others During COVID-19

Wow. What can we say. These are incredible times. COVID-19 has changed our lives in ways we never expected. What we are seeing during these uncertain times are waves of positive actions that warm our hearts. The spread of giving across the globe confirms for us that giving, no matter how small the action, is part of our being and does change the world, one give at a time.

But with this new world order how do we continue to give as we shelter in place? How can we give to other people, animals and the planet as we wait out the crisis in our homes? It is no different than regular giving, just more creative and done virtually! Digging deep to find new ways to give is part of the fun.

With these basic gives listed below you will be able to give globally and locally at the same time! Are actions and reactions to COVID-19 do have global results. Our giving at this time does change the world in ways we never imagined just a month ago. These basic gives that need to be practiced every day lead to more virtual gives as we settle into our lives. Lets start with these gives first. Keep reading over the next few weeks for more creative virtual gives that will continue to make these uncertain times easier to live through.

Practice Personal Hygiene – Give To Others During COVID-19

Wash your hands, wash all household and transportation surfaces, refrain from personal contact and stay 1 meter from others. The World health Organization has repeatedly asked all global citizens to practice this way of life. When you follow personal hygiene measures you are completing a global give! These measures stop the spread of the virus and will help people not only in your family but globally to remain protected from COVID-19

Shelter In Place! No Matter Where You Are

We have heard these terms over and over again. Social distancing, social isolating, shelter in place, lock down. These are state, country or provincial laws that we all must follow when directed to do so. But even if your city, town, country or community has not placed these orders yet, sheltering in place – ordered or not ordered  is a global daily give that ripples around the world. Be aware that there are vulnerable populations that we all need to protect. Sheltering in place is a compassionate, empathetic move that will help this global outbreak.

Lend A Listening Ear To Friends And Family

We all have our fears, thoughts, reservations, and ways of dealing with situations like this. Listening to a family member, colleague, friend or neighbour about their feelings of the new lifestyle we have to adopt will help to ease tensions. Listening is a great gift and a wonderful, effortless give. Simply giving someone the space to talk can take a weight off their shoulders, and help make them feel better. We are all in this together and listening is a give that will help someone cope. This act of compassion and empathy is a simple but powerful give!

Share Supplies With Others – Give To Others During COVID-19

Share what you have with others to keep them sheltering in place. Our most vulnerable communities need us to check in and share what we have. If your neighbour is elderly, deliver food to their door step.  Share what you have and help others remain in a safe space.

Be Grateful – Every Day

Be grateful for your health. Be grateful for the professionals who are on the front lines of the COVID-19. Be grateful for your family. Be grateful for the professionals who normally conduct the day to day functions that we are now having to perform at home – our teachers, transportation providers, restaurateurs. How ever you wish to show this gratitude, on social media, through email, text message or a video. Gratitude will bring a world of happiness during this critical time. Send one message of gratitude per day to keep all of our spirits up!

Share Positivity

Being positive during challenging times is hard, but there is a lot to be positive about. People are reaching out in beautiful ways that none of would have expected. The amount of daily giving during #COVID-19 has been amazing to watch. Be one of these people who steps up and finds the positive side to what we are facing. It warms your heart but also warms hearts all over the world. Lead by example and be that ray of sunshine during #COVID-19.

Some of these gives are national directives and would not feel like a small act of giving, but they are. By doing all of these gives every day you will change the world, change the current mood of the world and see how we can positively effect our global situation. We will continue to share more creative small acts of giving that will keep us healthy and happy as this situation remains. If there is a time we need to make giving part of our lifestyle, it is now! Be part of the change – you’ve got this!
