Day 270: Give a Key, Help the Homeless and Pay it Forward

Give a key for your next give. My sister is going to get this give today, and I am so happy I found this fabulous give of the day!

The give today is in honour of my sister Karen Somers. Today is her birthday – Happy Birthday girlfriend! She lives in LA so I don’t always get the opportunity to celebrate with her. One of the things I love about my relationship with this sister ( I have 3!) is we do the girlie stuff together. We love fashion and unique ways to shop. We are always comparing the deals we get at a second hand store or a remarkable savings at a favourite shop. I found a great gift for her this year that will support so many things we both believe in.  It is recycled, it supports the homeless, you get to enjoy it and then you pay it forward to someone else. (regifting with a purpose!) The best part it is it’s a unique fashion item you will get stopped in the street for.

Day 270: Give 270

I came across my sisters gift on a site called Tonic. Their tag line is “Do Good. Make a Difference. Share the experience.” A site right up my alley. One article caught my attention because of the title “Pay it Forward with The Giving Keys.” I was intrigue.

The Giving Keys was started by Caitlin Crosby. Here is her story:

“I met this sweet homeless couple on Hollywood Blvd who have had a really tough life. After falling in love with their hearts, and how hard they’re working to try and change their lives, I had an “Ah-Ha moment.” I realized they were the missing link to The Giving Keys. So I asked them to be my business partners. After all, the whole concept is PAYING IT FORWARD.”

This was the perfect gift for my sister. Very LA chic while giving back. I ordered one right away. Sis, your Giving Keys are on route, I hope you like it! The key is recycled and you can choose the chain and the message you would like imprinted on it. I will leave that part as a surprise for my sister but it’s all about how much she is loved. The special part of The Giving Keys is you enjoy your gift until you come across another person that you think could use the message as well. In comes the Pay It Forward part with a regifiting twist. Give it to another and keep the gift of giving going.

All proceeds from the necklace go to support the two young people Caitlan has partnered with to keep them from living on the streets of LA. As sales grow proceeds will continue to go to help support shelters and the homeless in Los Angeles. I love this project. Please consider purchasing a Giving Key for that unique person in your life that loves fashion and loves “Paying it Forward!”

Time Commitment: 5 minutes to place the order

Cost: As it is a gift I will let you discover the cost when you go to their site
