Day 213: Heart to Heart sends help for US Tornado Disaster Relief

Our planet seems a little upset these days. Shocking devastation is happening all over the world. Haiti, Japan and now in the US. A series of tornadoes hit the US this week and the people need our help to recover. Charity Navigator sent me a great reminder of the help that is required and organizations that are stepping up to provide the disaster relief that is needed.

Day 213: Give 213:

If you aren’t familiar with Charity Navigator is a leading resource to search and research not-for-profit organizations in the US. It provides valuable information that will help you decided where you would like you donation money to go. The email they sent me this week was specifically where I could donate to support the relief already happening in the US after the devastating tornadoes. Here are the 4 organizations they recommended that are taking instant action.

Matthew 25: Ministries – Is responding by sending food and personal care kits to Alabama
American Red Cross – Is working to provide shelter (1,600 people are in 65 Red Cross shelters) and food as well as medical assistance
Heart to Heart International – Is sending a shipment of aid to a free clinic in Montgomery
Samaritan’s Purse – Has deployed two of Disaster Relief Units (tractor-trailers stocked with emergency tools and supplies) to serve as command posts for staff and volunteers

I wasn’t familiar with all these charities except the Red Cross which I have donated to in the past. I wanted to make a donation to an organization I hadn’t supported before. I chose Heart to Heart as they are providing aid to a free clinic in Montgomery. My sister lives in the US and we have had on going conversations about the cost of medical care. As I live in Canada I do not have to pay directly for medical ( we pay indirectly) care as they do in the US. I will not go bankrupt if I get sick or need long term medical attention. Heart to Heart stretches every dollar donated to maximize eash and every donation. Here is a quote taken from their site:

“our strategic partnerships allow us to stretch our resources even further, enabling us to transform every $1 cash donation into an average of $25 worth of medical aid for people in need.”

That means that my $10.00 donation actually provides $250 worth of medical aid. If your home has been wiped out and you are also in need of medical care you can’t afford – how do you possible manage in the middle of a disaster zone. Heart to Heart will help people who are in this situation and provide support with the care they require.

The Royal Wedding took up most of the press space this week that there was little space to report on the disaster but there are people that right now, don’t have a TV or internet services to enjoy the pomp and circumstance of the major world event. Please remember them and all they need.

Time Commitment: 1 minute to donate

Cost: $10.00
