Day 180:Changing the World One Child at a Time
Carli & RobertMy post yesterday (Day 180) ended up pulling my heart strings. The post led to how a Vancouver company who donates proceeds from their sales to an organization called Carli’s Kid’s. After visiting Carli’s site I was instantly inspired to give.
Day 180: Give 180
Take one moment and imagine raising 14 children. No that wasn’t a typo not 1 and not 4 but 14. That is what Carli and her husband Robert are doing in Uganda. Carli is originally from Vancouver and just a few years ago made a commitment to raise 6 street children in Uganda. Their family started there and just keeps growing.
Their mission: “to save as many children as possible from abuse, starvation, abandonment and a lack of education.”
Here is just one of their children’s stories:
Sandra
“When Robert and Carli first met Sandra in 2009, she was only 5 years old, orphaned, and staying with her auntie who beat her regularly. She was suffering from malnutrition, ringworm and scaring on her face and back from the abuse she’d experienced. After being thrown head first through a window, she wandered back home to the shack she shared with her auntie and found it boarded up and her auntie gone. Robert and Carli took her in immediately. Sandra responded quickly to the safety and warmth of her new environment and spends her days laughing and playing with all her new brothers and sisters. She is starting school for the first time and is very excited and happy.”
Robert & the KidsThis is just one of the stories, there are many more like it that will pull at your heart strings. Robert and Carli are not Oprah or Bono. They aren’t millionaires, lottery winners or celebrities. They are two people trying to change the world one child at a time in a place where children are abandoned, abused, and orphaned by aids faster than the world can keep the help coming.
They have a simple request. Help them build a safe haven for the lost children in Uganda. Help them feed and educate these abandon children before they die on the street, forgotten and hungry. Their intention is to build a village “Abetavu Children’s Village.” Here is their plan:
“They are now seeking funding to start construction of the Children’s Village, which when complete will not only provide a healthy, loving environment for up to 100 children, but will also serve as a hub for the local community, providing much needed access to basic health care and primary education.”
If you have ever wanted to give to an organization that will support children in such desperate need consider Carli’s Kid’s. Take the time to visit their site. Even a small donation can go such a long way in Africa. Carli & Robert you are amazing people for your commitment to your children. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to give.
