Day 157: Pure Bliss: Ice-cream Does Good!

Who knew that ice-cream could be so good and do so much good at the same time? This GIVE was pure fluke. My son asked if we could get some ice-cream today while grocery shopping and I chose a brand for two simple reasons. It was on sale and it was dairy-free. When I got home and had a chance to taste this culinary delight, it made me want to read more. To my pleasant surprise I was making a difference just by supporting this company.

Give 157: Day 157

Coconut Bliss. The name of this product says it all. It truly is bliss the moment it hits your mouth. Why am I possible blogging about ice-cream when my topic is not dessert reviews but giving back every day?

The company that produces this product was started by a couple in Oregon. Luna & Larry are the owners and creators of this yummy product. Their journey began when they gave up eating dairy for health and ethical reason. Like many of us that choose eating in alternative ways, (we are dairy and wheat free in our family due to allergies) they still craved something that would satisfy their sweet tooth for dessert.

This is the part of the story I love.

They purchased a used hand cranked ice-cream maker from Goodwill. This couple was right up my alley. They wanted to create a natural ice-cream made from coconut. Creamy and easy to digest what better thing for people that cannot have dairy. There are many health benefits of coconut and to find out more take a look at the Coconut Research Centre.  Next comes the Agave. Another fantastic natural ingredient that makes almost anything taste great. This also means no refined sugar! Yeh!

I was introduced to Agave as my parents live in Mexico and produced there. The best way to describe it is a mix between honey and maple syrup. Yum again. I use it all the time for baking at home to keep the sugar out of our lives.

The ingredients are simple. They are organic (“giving” back to the planet), ingredients that you recognize and understand their meaning (“giving” our bodies natural products) and creating them in a way that is sustainable and environmentally friendly.

Way to go Larry & Luna. You have created a product that makes me feel good as well as making me feel good to purchase.

Go track it down and try it. You will never go back to regular ice-cream again!
