Day 139: Generosity Day meets Extreme Random Acts of Kindness Week

Image from Basno

What a day it is today. Just when everyone thought it was Valentine’s Day  – it’s been changed. Instead of sending over prices roses and chocolate (that will only add to the on going challenges of obesity on North America) it has been declared Generosity Day! Since I am all about GIVING back I love this concept. Take the day back from the retail businesses that have made the day a multi million dollar industry and GIVE it to each other in generosity and love instead. Be generous at work, at home, to your neighbours, your community, even support your favourite cause.

Open your heart and truly let the love flow through kindness and generosity.

Even better throw in a Random Act of Kindness. Today must be my favourite day of the year as it also launches Random Acts of Kindness Week.  Everyday for the next week one act of kindness will be suggested on the RAK site to encourage you to GIVE to someone or something in your life. Take the Extreme Kindness Challenge with me this week.

Whether you GIVE or you are Generous or you do a Random Act of Kindness we are all pushing for the same thing. Be kind, help your fellow man, do what you can to help change the world. Make it a better place at the end of each day. Be thankful and grateful for what you have and most importantly act with love. I came across a great question in a book I was reading once and very appropriate for today.

If “Love” were a person ask yourself before you act – what would “Love” do right now?

Day 139: Give 139

Today I am going to do both a Random Act of Kindness and I will be generous to support the new Generosity Day.

First of all the Random Act of Kindness Challenge for the day. (quoted directly from their site)

“Send a note of appreciation to someone you love today!  You can send it to your spouse, significant other, sibling, parent, child, best friend, coach, teacher—anyone who you feel needs a bit of a pick me up.  You can even make a list for your loved one highlighting all of the different reasons you appreciate him or her. Once you’ve brainstormed your thoughts, write them neatly in card you’ve chosen, or just send an email.  No matter how you decide to share a note of appreciation, be sure to do it today!”

An easy RAK today. I have so many people in my life I am thankful for and all they do. I may even send a few today! There is nothing like receiving a kind note thanking a person for who they are in your life and how they have contributed to making your world that much better.

Now for Generosity Day. I actually already had something planned to spread the love today. I wanted to brighten up as many people’s day as I possible could whether you had a “Valentine” or not. I purchased a small book of Love poems and quotes and today I will post them in as many public places as I can find. Community boards, coffee house boards, public washrooms, the gym. With poems in one hand and tape in the other I plan to be generous with Love today. Spreading the word or love rather than spreading the word of over priced flowers and chocolate.

365give would love to here your story of Generosity today or your Randome Act of Kindness. Let’s spread the love today any way we can!

Time Commitment: 1/2 hour

Cost: $1.50 for my book of poems
