Day 137: Take Action Now! Support Love!

It seems to be the week of voices. We saw a massive group of people create a historic change this week in Egypt with their voices – not violence. It will be something we will remember for the rest of our lives as it will shift the way people create change in world.

I believe my voice counts and I believe my voice, together with many other voices that believe in the same thing, can create a change. These past few days on 365give I have been given the opportunity to be that voice. I can GIVE to a cause, not with my money, but with my voice. We don’t always think we are philanthropic by signing a petition. But let us remember the definition of philanthropic “the love of humanity” or “private initiatives for public good, focusing on quality of life.”

Day 137: Give 137

Saturday is my Take Part day. I usually vote for a charity on Take Part that will have a chance to win part of a $1,000,000 donation from American Express. This week I got sidetracked on Take Part by a featured article on weddings. Every girl loves a good wedding so I stopped to take a look. It was titled “Vow to Support Marriage Equality.”

I think most people have friends or family in their life that are in a same-sex relationship. Two of my best friends have been for 25 years. Their relationship is better than most of my heterosexual friends. They share property together, a car, money and even a cat. They live the life any married couple would, but in this case have chosen not to pursue marriage legally. If they did I would be there with a bottle of Dom Perigon in hand cheering them on. They have stood the test of time better than most couples yet because of some archaic belief systems that has been carried down through generations of religions and through our politicians, they might not have that choice of marriage or the benefits that come along with them.

Why shouldn’t a same-sex couple not only have the right to choose to get married but be given the respect and benefits of any other married couple?

It is 2011 not 1911 and it is time to change our ways on this one.

Every time one province, state or country changes it’s laws on same-sex marriage it creates a ripple effect of change across the world. So take 1 minute out of your day to help push that ripple a little further. Use your voice to GIVE. Sign the petition.

Be the change you want to see in the world – today.

Time Commitment: 2 minutes

Cost: 0
