Day 138: Part of the (Im)Possible

I send out a request almost daily through twitter and facebook for guest “GIVES”. I love hearing other peoples stories. They keep me inspired and hopefully inspire you. This next guest post was done by a dear friend. She has recently been divorced  against her personal beliefs. She really wanted to take a symbol from this relationship and do something that would align with her values but also contribute to a cause she truly believes in. This is her heartfelt story and how she has taken what could be a sad story and has turned it into a story she will always be proud of.

Day 138: Give 138  Written by JRM

As a friend of 365give, I have been following the program regularly and get inspired daily. I like to think through what I am doing and what more can I do. To the point of feeling guilty if I mislay a GIVE!! Good place to use my feminine guilt !

Recently I had a sentimental ring I wanted to dispose of and I thought of throwing it into the sea. Then I received a letter from a dear friend of mine, Wendy, who last year decided to give of herself and help families in Africa. You can read her story and follow her journey on her blog.

She is the only white person in this village and also a woman.

It takes a lot of courage to do such wonderful work. She wants to stay another year and needs the funds to do so. I am not able to go and assist her, so I decided to sell my ring and send the money to help her stay so she is able to  further help others.

It felt both good and appropriate to sell my ring and donate the money to her work with the people in Africa. Please do read her unbelievable blog below . She was not trained to do all the things she does there … but just gets on and does it!

One of her mandates is to teach the village how to become more independent and do some of the tasks she is completing on their own.

I love her dearly …… please support Wendy to stay in a place you might never be able to go either.

If you have any old, no longer use rings, hanging around in your drawers – or any other jewelry you can sell please do so. GIVE Wendy a donation to continue her work. Every dollar would be appreciated.

Commitment: 15 mins to sell the ring and 5 minutes to send the money

Cost : The money I received for the ring that would have otherwise sat in a drawer collecting dust
