Day 116: Vote Today: Create Change Now

Take Part!

My blog is all about finding ways to GIVE every day in your life. You can add this to your list of GIVES every Saturday so you know every week you can GIVE back to a different charity without costing you a dime. All it will take is 1 minute of your time.

Day 116: Give 116

I discovered today a site called Take Part – Inspiration to Action. They do a lot of things to help inspire people to take action in their lives to give back. This is right up my alley. Making it easy for people to GIVE is what we are all about here at 365give. Now that I am giving every day for 365 days I am always looking for ways to GIVE without even leaving my office. Now I will share it with you.

Take Part is running an on line voting contest in partnership with American Express. All you have to do is vote for one of the highlighted charities to help them secure part of a $1,000,000 donation. There isn’t a charity on this planet that wouldn’t want a portion of those funds. Here is the mission right from their site.

“Even one vote can make a big difference with Members Project. Help decide which five charities will receive a total of $1,000,000 in funding from American Express. You can vote for one charity every week and new winners will be announced every three months.”

There are 45 different charities to choose from and you can even suggest one that may not be on the list. Today I voted for the Big Bother Big Sisters organization. Look at these stats of children that have a positive role model in their life through their mentoring program.

46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs
27% less likely to begin using alcohol
52% less likely to skip school
37% less likely to skip a class
33% less likely to hit someone

The BBBS runs projects all over North America and you can donate or volunteer to help. Even sharing this story and theirs will make a difference. Their mission is they help vulnerable children beat the odds. Who doesn’t want to help a child do that.

Next week I will choose another charity. The best part is I’m learning as I go while I’m giving. I am choosing charities I don’t know a lot about and creating an awareness I didn’t have for new organizations that are changing the world. So many already do so much – now it’s your turn.
