Day 101: It Takes Just $10 to Change the World

Just before Christmas I attended my first 365give fundraiser. A dear friend took it upon herself to go and get raffle items donated for her industry holiday party and sold raffle tickets at this special event. I was honoured to be the recipient of this generous contribution and had the opportunity to meet a number of the attendees. They call themselves Film Familia. These are a group of people that work in the commercial and television industry. They have chosen their careers not for the money but for the passion of creating – like any artist. Most do not have a lot of extra money, they aren’t millionaires nor do they have regular 9 -5 jobs, which guarantee them a set salary every year. Some years are good and some bad.

But a common conversation kept coming up. It was a conversation about $10. Each of them had $10 in their pocket to GIVE. One lovely women even brought me her bag of change which she empties from her pockets each day. Between them all they raised just over $800 for 365give! The money is supposed to go into some of the overhead it takes to run the blog and do the GIVES every day.
I wanted to do something really special to honour this amazing group of people. Every day for 10 days I will be making a donation of $10 in their honour. I want to show everyone that $10 can make a difference. It doesn’t have to be $100 or even $50. I also understand that not all of us have an extra $10 but today I do because of the Film Familia, and they all did the day they attended their holiday party.

How can you change the world today for just $10?
Day 101: Give 101

My $10 donation today will go to The World Food Program. I have chosen this particular program for many reasons. Here is just one of them and a quote take directly from their site :-

“There are 925 million undernourished people in the world today. That means one in seven people do not get enough food to be healthy and lead an active life. Hunger and malnutrition are in fact the number one risk to the health worldwide — greater than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined.”

I have never gone hungry in my life. I have been blessed with parents who provided for me when I was a child and gave me the education to take care for myself as an adult so that I would never go hungry in my life.
Even in Canada people go hungry every day. Actually thousands of them in our fine country. I worked with many homeless and hungry people while volunteering in Toronto for many years and it still astonishes me in a world of abundance in which we live, that so many not only go hungry but die every day because of the lack of food in many parts of the world.
The World Food Program has a very special campaign called ‘Fill the Cup’. With every dollar donated they are able to provide 4 cups of of nutritious food that will save lives.

Let’s do the math – $10 x 4 cups = 40 cups of food = 40 mouths that received a nutritious meal because of that $10.

Wow! It’s that easy. I even got to choose where I would like the donation directed. I chose feeding children going to school.
Thank you Film Familia for supporting 365give. You are all changing the world one day at a time.

If you have a favourite cause or charity which you would like 365give to support over the next 10 days send me a note. Tell me about the organization and how $10 will make an impact.

Time Commitment: 5 minutes to make a donation on line
Cost: $10.00
