7 Ways to Give In 2019 In The New Year! Your First Week Of Giving!

We gave all year long in 2018 but now it is time to look at Ways to Give In 2019. While the New Year is an important time to consider new resolutions and self-improvement, giving can easily be incorporated into your daily routine! Building off of our previous blog post sharing 50 Gives to Start the New Year off Right, we have created a simplified list to inspire giving on a regular basis.

  1. Donate your old clothes and lightly used items

Decluttering and tidying your house is hard but such a great thing to do –  adding organization and structure to begin your new year will set the stage for the rest of the year. Let’s face it… majority of us don’t wear half of what’s in our closet. Why not turn a chore into a give where people benefit from your those clothes you never wear. Local donation boxes and thrift stores always appreciate your lightly used items, and many people would enjoy your second-hand goods!

2. Reduce your meat consumption

While we are not suggesting to go vegetarian, eliminating meat once a week counts as a planet give! Greenhouse gas emissions linked to meat are harmful for the environment and can be lessened through alternatives. To put your emissions into perspective, the Food Emissions Calculator explains how the food you are eating effects the environment.

3. Send a Thank You card to someone who has helped you in the past

Let’s face it – life gets busy. Between work, school, family and other obligations it can be difficult to maintain relationships, especially with distance in the way. Letting those who have helped you know you are thankful with a simple card will put a smile on their face.

4. Make a DIY gift for someone

While gifts are fun to buy, there is something to be said for the effort and personalization of homemade presents. If you are on a budget or looking to make something yourself, these gifts are a perfect way to show your creativity without breaking the bank! If you combine a DIY gift with recycled materials or eco-garbage (leaves, acorns, discarded branches and seeds) it would count as a planet give!

5. Let someone go ahead of you in line

As simple as this give is, it is a small act of kindness that anyone will appreciate! Many people are short on time when running errands, and if the person behind you has less to pay for or do you,  this is a perfect opportunity to allow them to go ahead. A few extra minutes in line is no hassle and can inspire other people to do the same!

6. Leave a copy of your favourite book for someone to enjoy

While some people enjoy rereading books, reading the same copy can get boring. Leaving books in public places for others to read can also inspire others to do the same! While books can now be read online, there is something to be said for a hard copy paper book. Many will appreciate the gesture, and you can leave a smile on someone else’s face.

7. Say something nice to everyone you meet for 24 hours

This is yet another simple give that can make someone’s day. Not only will this make a great impression, but you will also be able to pick up someone’s spirits if they are feeling down.

Although these easy gives are not resolutions, they can simply be added into your daily routine to begin your new year on the right track. Giving everyday can be as simple as giving someone a compliment or donating your used goods and lessening your contribution to waste. There are only 7 ways to give on this list, so get creative and let us know how YOU are going to inspire others to give in 2019.
