6 Gives That Help Our Oceans on World Oceans Day

On World Oceans Day, people around our blue planet celebrate and honor the ocean, which connects us all. It’s a great time to get together with your family, friends, community, and give back to our shared oceans. Why Celebrate World Ocean’s Day?

A healthy world ocean is critical to our survival. Every year, World Oceans Day provides a unique opportunity to honor, help protect, and conserve our world’s shared ocean. The ocean is important because it:

  • Generates most of the oxygen we breath
  • Helps feed us
  • Regulates our climate
  • Cleans the water we drink
  • Offers a pharmacopoeia of medicines
  • Provides limitless inspiration!

Support Organizations That Take Care Of Our Oceans

Oceana is the largest organization in the world solely devoted to marine conservation. Since its founding, Oceana has achieved hundreds of concrete policy victories for marine life and habitats and is involved in efforts to end major sources of ocean pollution such as oil, mercury, aquaculture and shipping emissions.

Ocean Conservancy is another leading advocacy group working for the protection of special marine habitats, the restoration of sustainable fisheries and for reducing the human impact on ocean ecosystems. One of Ocean Conservancy’s best-known efforts is the International Coastal Cleanup program.

Project AWARE Foundation is the organization working specifically with scuba divers across the globe to protect underwater environments. Focused on the critical issues of Shark Conservation and Marine Debris, Project AWARE empowers thousands to work together for a clean, healthy and abundant ocean planet.

Give them a little donation, volunteer at their offices or just let others know about their great work by sharing their posts through social media.
