How to Give: The 365give Top 5 Ways to “Give” for Free
Nov 5th
The Globe & Mail newspaper has been running a series on giving over the last few weeks. It’s an excellent series worth reading. One of the interesting catch phrases they have used is ”The New Philanthropy.” After giving back everyday for 365 days I can tell you that be a philanthropist is no longer just the rich giving large sums of money to the charity of their choice. It is every day people giving in small ways when they can with their time, crowdfunding a personal favourite cause or “texting” donation for disaster relief. We have learned that even $10 can make a multi million dollar difference if we all give together.
Wikipedia defines philanthropy perfectly in today’s society:
“Philanthropy etymologically means “the love of humanity“—love in the sense of caring for, nourishing, developing, or enhancing; humanity in the sense of “what it is to be human,” or “human potential.” In modern practical terms, it is “private initiatives for public good, focusing on quality of life“
I’m not an expert on giving / philanthropy by any means. I don’t have millions of dollars to give through a foundation nor do I have hours to volunteer or travel to remote parts of the world to save lives. But what I do have is a little time everyday to “love humanity,” Whether it is a person, an animal or the planet we can all be philanthropist. Big Brothers Big Sisters Canada posed a question this week on Facebook that you should answer.
“If you had 1 hour to help change the world what would you do?”
I want to help you discover the “new philanthropist” in yourself. I discovered so many ways to give that I never even consider or new existed during my 365 days of giving. Many of them do not even cost a dime. All you have to do is like, tweet or click and you can show your “love for humanity”. Social media has given us all the opportunity to be a philanthropist. Find your favourite medium whether is be Twitter, Facebook or just using the internet. We can all give a minute of our time to change the world.

283: Can Tweeting Change the World?
Jul 10th
When I started 365give I had never blogged, I’m not a writer, I had never Facebooked nor did I even begin to understand how Twitter worked. How do you possible say anything in 140 characters?
After 283 days of daily blogging, Facebook posting and Tweeting I have had the opportunity to meet some pretty fantastic people doing remarkable thing to change the world. Not everyone has their own web or blog. Many tweet to help spread news and in the case of 365give many help me spread the news of being philanthropic. My Twitter friends encourage and support me every day and I feel so blessed to have them close through my giving journey.
My post today is a guest post from one of my Twitter friends. I have never met this person but he is a lovely and he helps spread news all around the world by tweeting. He gives every day just by tweeting my giving stories and I asked him if I could help him in some way. He has mission he is trying to accomplish right now to help kids that have fallen victim to child abuse. His story is graphic and touching. It reminds us that we can all do something to help change the world. It’s not a perfect place but if you stand up for what you believe in and ask for others to join you - you can be the change you want to see in the world.
Day 282 / Give 283 Written by @helpspreadthis
Life is Beautiful…..unless you are Victor. Victor is a 10 year old little boy who was adopted along with his twin sister Nubia.
Earlier this year, Nubia was murdered by her adopted father and transported in the back of the family’s vehicle while Victor lay in the back seat soaked in acid. Victor survived but will be emotionally and physically scarred for life.
It has been reported that the two children had been tortured since being adopted in 2009.
We live in a world where inexplicable horrors occur. The world is a big place and it can be a bit overwhelming. We have a choice.
My choice….my give… is to not just be sad or sickened by these horrific news reports of child abuse, but to take action. I have started a call to action, a petition to insist on changes in how reports of child abuse are handled. This is at least a start.
I do believe Life is Beautiful. I just want it to be beautiful for ALL the children in this world as well.
If You Care Enough, You Can Change The World. Come Help Us!! Please join us in supporting our cause to protect children living in abusive households
US petition.
