Day 280: Give & Tonic Anyone?
Jul 6th

Give & Tonic
What does Giving and Tonic have to with each other? They actually make the perfect daily cocktail of kindness, giving, good deeds and random acts of kindness. Today I “did the deed” on Tonic to share the goodness.
Day 280: Give 280
One of my goals for 365give is to help inspire people to give more in their lives. I want to show people new ways to give, easy ways to give and fun ways to give every day.
I found a site called Tonic that I can tap into everyday for just that inspiration. Tonic has a daily “Deed” that gives back in all kinds of ways. It’s social, interactive and every time you complete a “Deed” for the day a donation is made in your honour.
Here is what they are all about quoted directly from their site.
“ Tonic is by definition anything morally, mentally, or physically inspiring. Tonic is a platform for brands (consumers, celebrities and causes) to educate, interact and engage consumers around positive actions. We started as a destination for good news content, now we want to generate news of its own by bringing together the worlds of Silicon Valley, Madison Avenue, Philanthropy and Hollywood. At Tonic, we also see ourselves as a service company — one that strives not only to inspire our readers, but to equip them with the resources to make a difference.”
The deed I completed was to “Drop That Burger & Go Vegan for a Day.” Why vegan? How does that give back?
“While a vegan diet may seem extreme or hard to follow, they have a pretty great rep for being healthy, easy on the environment and of course, a friend to the animals.”
Going vegan for a day was easy. My family is all about salads for dinner in the summer. We threw in some grilled marinated tofu and we were all set. Yum! Even my 3 year son loves it. We are dairy free at home due to food allergies so alternative milks are a part of our every day lives.
Every day a new “Good Deed” comes up so check it out, sign up and record your deed. Every “Good Deed” is counted and adds to the running total of funds being donated.
Here are the total “Good Deeds” to date:
- $605,369 dollars donated
- 35840 Deeds Completed
- 4739 Doers
Be part of the giving team at Tonic and tell us what Deed is your favourite this week.
Time Commitment: 1 day to go Vegan
Cost: 0 saved money by not buy meat!
Day 270: Give a Key, Help the Homeless and Pay it Forward
Jun 26th

The give today is in honour of my sister Karen Somers. Today is her birthday - Happy Birthday girlfriend! She lives in LA so I don’t always get the opportunity to celebrate with her. One of the things I love about my relationship with this sister ( I have 3!) is we do the girlie stuff together. We love fashion and unique ways to shop. We are always comparing the deals we get at a second hand store or a remarkable savings at a favourite shop. I found a great gift for her this year that will support so many things we both believe in. It is recycled, it supports the homeless, you get to enjoy it and then you pay it forward to someone else. (regifting with a purpose!) The best part it is it’s a unique fashion item you will get stopped in the street for.
Day 270: Give 270
I came across my sisters gift on a site called Tonic. Their tag line is “Do Good. Make a Difference. Share the experience.” A site right up my alley. One article caught my attention because of the title “Pay it Forward with The Giving Keys.” I was intrigue.
The Giving Keys was started by Caitlin Crosby. Here is her story:
“I met this sweet homeless couple on Hollywood Blvd who have had a really tough life. After falling in love with their hearts, and how hard they’re working to try and change their lives, I had an “Ah-Ha moment.” I realized they were the missing link to The Giving Keys. So I asked them to be my business partners. After all, the whole concept is PAYING IT FORWARD.”
This was the perfect gift for my sister. Very LA chic while giving back. I ordered one right away. Sis, your Giving Keys are on route, I hope you like it! The key is recycled and you can choose the chain and the message you would like imprinted on it. I will leave that part as a surprise for my sister but it’s all about how much she is loved. The special part of The Giving Keys is you enjoy your gift until you come across another person that you think could use the message as well. In comes the Pay It Forward part with a regifiting twist. Give it to another and keep the gift of giving going.
All proceeds from the necklace go to support the two young people Caitlan has partnered with to keep them from living on the streets of LA. As sales grow proceeds will continue to go to help support shelters and the homeless in Los Angeles. I love this project. Please consider purchasing a Giving Key for that unique person in your life that loves fashion and loves “Paying it Forward!”
Time Commitment: 5 minutes to place the order
Cost: As it is a gift I will let you discover the cost when you go to their site
